Cherry Grove Farm Offers a Unique Opportunity

On our Sustaining Farming on the Urban Fringe website we talk a lot about the difficulty new and would-be farmers have learning farm practices and generating cash for a grubstake that would allow them to take the plunge into their small farm dream. Finding internships or job opportunities that offer a combination of sustainable farming skills along with a chance to hone the "people skills" needed for a successful agritourism venture are fairly uncommon in New Jersey. Cherry Grove Farm is presently offering this type of opportunity. We support our state's mission to encourage new and beginning farmers, organic and traditional, by showcasing opportunities as they become available. Cherry Grove Farm is seeking a general farm manager.
The farm is located in Lawrenceville, NJ. They produce and market artisanal cheeses, grass-fed meats, and other farm products. The owners are committed to the principles of sustainability, environmental conservation, community engagement and product excellence. Cherry Grove Farm

The farm is situated on a heavily traveled state highway in the heart of the Philadelphia – New York corridor, where retail stores, restaurants and families value high-quality products from local producers. Established points of sale include an on-farm store, seasonal farm markets, year-round wholesale to restaurants and retail markets, and a growing web-based presence. 

The Manager (or, couple) will be in charge of all aspects of farm management from production to marketing. He or she will be a person with demonstrated supervisory and management experience; a friendly, outgoing and inclusive manner; and creative passion for the production and marketing of local agricultural products. Appropriate backgrounds may include sustainable agricultural production, experience in food sales or distribution, or some combination of these qualifications.
