High Tunnel Cover Crop Evaluation

Four cover crops will be evaluated in High Tunnels at RAREC this Fall.

The high tunnels are currently housing grafted tomatoes. Once the tomato crop is removed, Meredith Melendez will be testing four cover crops. Phacelia, Wollypod Vetch, Forage Radish, and Oats will be planted both inside the high tunnels and in open plots outside of the tunnels.  Four planting dates are planned for each cover crop, for both inside and outside groups. Evaluations will include: timing with spring and fall crops, weed pressure, cost factors, and ease of killing. This project is supported by the Mercer County Board of Agriculture.
